Chapter 1 ~ Communicate Successfully to Motivate Effectively by Drs. Patricia A. D’Urso and Audrey Ellison
As Mr. Klein reminds us, “academia and the business world are entwined.” In the Refractive Thinker VIII, there are multiple chapters of studies that prove the following model: Understanding + Communication + Motivation = A higher retention of high level performers.
In Communicate Successfully to Motivate Effectively, Dr. Patricia A D’Urso and Dr. Audrey Ellison listed several studies about communication and motivation. They discussed the disruption in the workplace by disengaged employees, and the advantages of the Herman Brain Dominance Inventory, which I enjoyed very much. They also discussed the differences between male and female communication styles, and how to handle the communication differences in the workplace. To quote the authors, “The more opportunities an organization has to cultivate collaboration between genders, the greater the probability that there will be a strong individual propensity to invest energy in collaborative work, which can lead to significant business outcomes.”
